Learning plans in place when students must quarantine
Student learns from home

Students who can’t attend school because they have COVID-19 or are required to quarantine, will learn from home using lessons and support materials provided by their teachers.

TPS has developed learning plans for various remote-learning scenarios, including small groups or entire classes, for students missing in-person school for up to 14 days.

No matter the scenario:

  • Your school principal or teacher will notify you if your child must quarantine.
  • Soon after, you’ll receive a learning plan from your child’s teacher.
  • Elementary teachers will provide support in English Language Arts and math.
  • Middle and high school teachers will provide support in all courses.
  • All lessons will be in Schoology, the district’s online learning and collaboration tool.

Individual students or small groups quarantining for up to 14 days
Classroom teachers will communicate their plan to families soon after receiving a quarantine notice. Every day, teachers will assign independent learning assignments online through Schoology, where classroom documents and lessons can be uploaded for students to access and work on at home. Classroom teachers will interact with students and families either through email or Schoology and respond to inquiries within 24 hours.

Whole class or school quarantine for up to 14 days
When an entire class or school is quarantined, teachers will teach a combination of live classes on Teams and assign independent learning via Schoology.

School teams will develop a learning plan for any student with an IEP or 504 plan.

Using Schoology
Now, at the beginning of the school year, teachers are refreshing students on how to use Schoology, where they can attend classes remotely, see their assignments, turn in homework, and get feedback and grades from their teachers.

Parents can also log into Schoology to see their child’s assignments and grades. If you have not yet received your unique parent log in code, contact your student’s school, teacher, or email our Schoology support team at SchoologySupport@tacoma.k12.wa.us.
